Early detection of eye disease is the most important factor in preventing vision loss. Southern Dutchess Eye Care is committed to bringing the latest technology to the Hudson Valley to help prevent, diagnose and treat eye disease.

For eye disease management, we have fully integrated digital imagery into our practice. Unlike the traditional method of hand sketching an eye condition on a paper chart, computer-aided images of your eye’s health status provide exceptional full-color detail. We are better able to monitor and treat your eye disease by comparing images, and having the ability to easily share them with other physicians involved in your care.

Staying on top of new technological developments can require a significant amount of time in continuing education and a substantial capital investment, but as a doctor team we feel the significant patient benefits are well worth it. Here are some of the new technologies currently being used by our practice.

Technology Overview

Electronic Medical Records
By maintaining your medical records electronically, the sharing of your health care information with other practitioners becomes easier and safer than ever before. Your medical conditions and other aspects of your medical history can be communicated and coordinated almost instantly making the delivery of care efficient and effective.
Heidelberg Retina Tomograph
(HRT) uses a laser light to scan the retina in 24 millisecond sequential scans, starting above the retinal surface and then capturing parallel images at increasing depths. The results are used in the treatment and management of those with or having risk factors for glaucoma. More Info
Visual Fields Analyzer
The Visual Fields Analyzer measures the peripheral field of vision and can accurately determine the stage of eye disease, its rate of progression, and a patient’s risk of future vision loss. There are applications for glaucoma, stroke, headaches, neurological disorders, high risk med management, eyelid disorders, and vascular disorders.  More Info
OCT Retina Scanner
This ultra-high speed high resolution retina scanner provides us with advanced retina diagnostic capabilities that have significant benefits for patients with retina conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other macular diseases. The device measures and analyzes the nerve fiber layer and macula which improves the diagnosis and therapy of ocular disease.  More Info
Corneal Topography
This technology is used for precise contact lens fitting. This technology determines exactly how the central and peripheral corneas are shaped and then nearly mirrors your cornea to create the most precise and comfortable fit available. It is also extremely useful in determining candidacy for LASIK and managing corneal disorders and ocular surface disease. We offer a portable unit which helps us to deliver this technology to our patients who are immobile.  More Info
Fundus Photography
Using state-of-the-art imaging technology we can capture high-resolution diagnostic images of the retina that are extremely detailed and clear; a necessity to effectively detect and monitor ocular conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, hypertensive retinopathy, pseudotumor, and macular degeneration. These high resolution images are particularly beneficial to our patients with any type of diabetic retinopathy. Because flash intensity is also dramatically reduced, there is improved overall patient comfort, and significantly shorter exams.
